ALBANY, Alameda County — October 24, 2026. Albany residents in the Terrace neighborhood and along several city streets could see another phase of sewer and storm drain work beginning next week. The city’s Public Works project listings say contractor APB General Engineering is tentatively scheduled to begin on October 26, starting in Albany Terrace before work moves toward Marin Avenue or Kains Avenue. The date is a city forecast, not proof that a particular block will be closed on Monday.
Contract awarded in September
Albany’s official procurement record for contract C26-21 lists APB General Engineering as the winning contractor, an award date of September 8, 2026 and an awarded amount of $1,399,888. This distinction matters: the earlier project information described a tentative award; the subsequent bid record identifies a completed award. An awarded contract still does not establish how much construction has been performed or which invoices have been paid.
Which infrastructure is included?
The municipal project description identifies rehabilitation or replacement of roughly 1,900 feet of sanitary sewer main and 700 feet of lower laterals around Marin Avenue, Kains Avenue and the Peralta/Tevlin easement. The storm-drain portion encompasses approximately 750 feet of pipe and associated structures near Albany Terrace, Tevlin Street, Terrace Street and the same easement. Quantities are planning approximations and may change through final construction records.
Why the repairs are being done
Albany maintains about 33 miles of sewer main and about 12 miles of storm drain pipelines and culverts, according to Public Works. Annual wastewater work also responds to obligations arising from a 2014 federal consent decree involving Albany and other East Bay agencies. Sewer lines carry wastewater, while storm drains handle rainwater; both require separate maintenance and engineering even when a construction contract coordinates repairs in several locations.
What residents should verify
The city described a general project period from September 2026 through March 2027. Actual street-by-street dates, parking restrictions and pedestrian access depend on the contractor’s notices and conditions on site. Residents should request a current block-specific update from Albany Public Works rather than assume a listed project road is completely closed. The city lists Public Works contact 510-524-9543 in its project information.
